Bihar is planning to launch a dedicated artificial intelligence policy as part of its efforts to emerge as a major AI hub in India, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced during the Bihar AI Summit 2026 in Patna.
Addressing the gathering at Urja Auditorium, Choudhary said artificial intelligence is likely to become a regular part of people’s daily lives in the coming years. He encouraged young people to play an active role in Bihar’s digital growth and innovation journey.
He also spoke about India’s fast-paced digital expansion under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pointing out that nearly 1.2 billion people across the country now use mobile phones. According to him, AI has the potential to further improve governance and make public services more efficient.
Choudhary said the Bihar government has directed all departments to begin adopting AI-powered technologies to improve transparency, accountability, and the delivery of government schemes. The proposed AI policy is expected to focus on strengthening digital infrastructure, supporting innovation, and creating new job opportunities in the state.
He added that the government wants Bihar to be counted among the country’s leading AI-driven states and will continue working towards that goal through long-term initiatives.
The Bihar AI Summit 2026 was organised by the state’s Information Technology Department along with the Bihar Industries Association and Qlass EdTech. The event was attended by senior government officials and industry leaders, including Ankush Sabharwal, founder of BharatGPT.
Alongside the AI announcement, Choudhary also shared details about a major infrastructure project for the state. He said a 125-km-long Ganga Expressway will be built under the public-private partnership model at an estimated cost of ₹30,000 crore over the next three years.
