Vertiv has picked up Strategic Thermal Labs LLC (STL) in a move that shows how quickly cooling is becoming a core part of modern computing.

As AI and high-performance workloads grow, machines are running hotter and denser than before. That’s turning cooling from a background function into something that directly affects performance and reliability. This is where STL fits in. The company specialises in liquid cooling at the server level, including cold-plate design and testing systems built for high-density setups.

By bringing STL on board, Vertiv is aiming to get better at handling heat right from the chip level up to the full data centre. The idea is to improve how cooling systems interact with power and infrastructure, and to better simulate real-world conditions before systems are deployed.

The company says this is one of the tougher challenges in the industry right now—managing heat as power density keeps rising. With STL’s experience, Vertiv expects to design more efficient and reliable solutions, especially as liquid cooling becomes more common in AI environments.

At the same time, Vertiv has clarified that nothing changes for its partners. It will continue to support an open setup, meaning its solutions will still work across different hardware and platforms.

In the bigger picture, this move is part of Vertiv’s push to offer more complete infrastructure solutions—covering power, cooling, and system operations—so customers can keep up with the growing demands of AI-driven computing.
