Razorpay has partnered with OpenAI to simplify how developers add payments to their applications. The new integration allows payment features to be built directly into apps using Codex, just by describing requirements in natural language.
This means developers no longer need to spend time setting up separate payment infrastructure before launching their products.
With this system, developers can include payment options like UPI while building their apps. Razorpay says the goal is to help builders move faster from idea to monetisation without getting stuck in technical setup.
The integration runs through Razorpay’s MCP Server, which enables Codex to automatically generate applications with built-in payment flows. Developers only need to explain their product and how they want payments to work, and the system handles checkout setup and collections in the background.
The timing of this launch is significant. India is already processing over 20 billion UPI transactions every month, while its developer ecosystem continues to grow rapidly, with millions of users on platforms like GitHub.
Alongside this, Razorpay has introduced a new application inside ChatGPT that allows businesses to manage payments through simple chat-based commands. Tasks like checking refunds, tracking settlements, or reconciling transactions can now be handled conversationally.
Shashank Kumar said the shift reflects a bigger moment for India’s startup ecosystem, where ideas can quickly turn into working products using AI. According to him, developers can start charging users almost immediately after building their apps.
Oliver Jay noted that Codex adoption is rising in India, as developers increasingly use it to turn prompts into functional software within minutes. With Razorpay now integrated, the process from building to earning becomes much more seamless.
Razorpay added that this move builds on its broader efforts in AI-driven commerce, including work on agent-based payment systems developed with the National Payments Corporation of India.
