PhonePe Partners with OpenAI to Bring ChatGPT to Indian Users
PhonePe announced on Thursday a strategic partnership with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT to users across its consumer and business platforms in India.
Through this collaboration, PhonePe users will be able to explore ChatGPT’s features directly within the PhonePe app ecosystem, including the Indus Appstore.
The company said the integration will enable users to easily access information for everyday needs such as travel planning and shopping, while paving the way for new possibilities as generative technology becomes more widely adopted in the country.
This collaboration aims to increase user familiarity with ChatGPT and support the growth goals of both organizations.
Leaders Highlight the Impact and Future of the Partnership
Rahul Chari, founder, whole-time director, and CTO of PhonePe, said the company has spent years building strong digital foundations to serve India at scale. He added that this alliance shows how partnerships between forward-thinking companies can help bring advanced technology to a larger audience.
Oliver Jay, head of international at OpenAI, said the collaboration marks progress toward the company’s goal of expanding access to its tools in India. He noted that India’s strong culture of innovation and PhonePe’s deep connection with local users make the company an ideal partner to showcase how consumer-focused technology can improve daily life for millions.
Recently, OpenAI announced that users in India would receive a free one-year subscription to ChatGPT Go starting November 4, coinciding with its first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru. Earlier this year, Paytm also partnered with Perplexity to bring smart search capabilities to its app.
