OpenAI has secured an unprecedented $110 billion in new funding, lifting its pre-money valuation to $730 billion. The massive round highlights the growing appetite for advanced AI systems and the infrastructure needed to power them at global scale.

The investment includes $30 billion each from NVIDIA and SoftBank, while Amazon has committed $50 billion. Amazon’s portion will be released in two stages — $15 billion initially and the remaining $35 billion subject to agreed conditions. The round is still open, with additional financial backers expected to participate.

Beyond funding, OpenAI announced deeper strategic ties with both NVIDIA and Amazon to lock in long-term computing capacity. The company said the fresh capital will be used to expand its computing infrastructure, strengthen distribution, and make its AI products more widely accessible to consumers, developers, businesses, and governments.

Sam Altman, OpenAI’s co-founder and CEO, said the partnerships reflect a shared commitment to translating scientific breakthroughs into practical systems that benefit people worldwide. He stressed that scaling AI responsibly requires collaboration across hardware, cloud infrastructure, and software platforms.

Expanded NVIDIA Agreement

Under its new agreement with NVIDIA, OpenAI will gain access to 3 gigawatts of dedicated inference capacity and 2 gigawatts of training capacity using NVIDIA’s upcoming Vera Rubin systems. This builds on existing Hopper and Blackwell systems already deployed through partners such as Microsoft, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and CoreWeave.

The arrangement secures the high-performance computing resources required to train increasingly complex AI models and deliver faster responses to users.

Deepening Amazon Collaboration

OpenAI’s partnership with Amazon is aimed at accelerating AI deployment for enterprises and startups. The companies plan to jointly develop a Stateful Runtime Environment powered by OpenAI models, which will be offered through Amazon Bedrock. This will allow AWS customers to build more advanced generative AI applications and AI agents.

As part of the deal, Amazon Web Services will serve as the exclusive third-party cloud distribution provider for OpenAI Frontier, the company’s enterprise platform designed to manage AI agent teams.

OpenAI will also utilize approximately 2 gigawatts of AWS Trainium chip capacity under an expanded compute agreement. The companies are extending their existing $38 billion multi-year partnership by an additional $100 billion over eight years. This expanded commitment includes next-generation Trainium3 and Trainium4 chips, with Trainium4 expected to launch in 2027 and deliver improved performance, memory bandwidth, and capacity for large-scale AI workloads.

Surging Product Adoption

OpenAI says demand for its services continues to climb sharply. ChatGPT now reaches more than 900 million weekly active users and has over 50 million paying consumer subscribers. More than 9 million business users rely on the platform to support work across engineering, finance, sales, customer support, and operations.

The company’s enterprise-focused Frontier platform is helping organizations build and manage AI-driven systems internally. Meanwhile, Codex — OpenAI’s software development tool — has grown to 1.6 million weekly users, more than tripling since the beginning of the year.

The latest valuation also significantly increases the worth of the OpenAI Foundation’s stake in the company, now valued at over $180 billion.

OpenAI said the new capital and strengthened partnerships will help it continue training and deploying next-generation AI systems worldwide as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in everyday workflows.

Microsoft Clarifies Its Position

Following the funding announcement, Microsoft stated that its long-standing partnership with OpenAI remains unchanged. The company said the new agreements and investments do not alter the terms previously outlined between the two organizations.

Microsoft emphasized that its collaboration with OpenAI continues across research, engineering, and product development. It also confirmed that its exclusive licensing and intellectual property arrangements related to OpenAI’s models and products remain in place.
