NVIDIA Partners with South Korea to Build Nationwide AI Infrastructure
NVIDIA, the first company to surpass a $5 trillion market valuation, announced on October 30 a large-scale collaboration with the South Korean government and several of the country’s biggest corporations to establish advanced AI infrastructure nationwide.
Revealed during the APEC Summit, the initiative involves the deployment of over 260,000 NVIDIA GPUs through partnerships with Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Group, SK Group, and NAVER Cloud, forming the backbone of Korea’s AI-driven future.
The effort aims to accelerate progress in manufacturing, mobility, semiconductors, and telecommunications, strengthening South Korea’s leadership in next-generation technology.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said, “Korea’s strength in technology and manufacturing places it at the centre of the AI industrial revolution, where accelerated computing infrastructure becomes as essential as power grids and broadband.”
The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) will also invest in sovereign AI infrastructure, starting with an initial deployment of 50,000 GPUs through domestic providers NHN Cloud, Kakao Corp., and NAVER Cloud.
According to Bae Kyung-hoon, South Korea’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, “Expanding our national AI infrastructure and developing technologies with NVIDIA is an investment that will reinforce South Korea’s strengths, particularly in manufacturing.”
AI Factories, Large Language Models, and Physical AI Development
Samsung Electronics will establish a semiconductor AI factory powered by 50,000 NVIDIA GPUs to enhance chip design, robotics, and smart manufacturing. The factory will utilize NVIDIA CUDA-X libraries and Omniverse software to improve simulation and production efficiency.
Jay Y. Lee, Executive Chairman of Samsung Electronics, said, “From Samsung’s DRAM for NVIDIA’s graphics card in 1995 to our new AI factory, we are proud to continue our long-standing partnership with NVIDIA in leading this transformation.”
Hyundai Motor Group will also create an AI supercomputer powered by 50,000 Blackwell GPUs to drive innovation in intelligent mobility and autonomous driving. The $3 billion investment includes building an AI technology centre and a physical AI application hub.
Hyundai’s Executive Chair Euisun Chung described the partnership as “a pivotal step forward in advancing Korea’s AI ecosystem.”
SK Group plans to develop another AI factory equipped with more than 50,000 NVIDIA GPUs to accelerate semiconductor research and the creation of intelligent AI agents. SK Hynix and SK Telecom will use the technology for chip design, robotics, and digital twin applications.
NAVER Cloud will expand its AI capacity with over 60,000 NVIDIA GPUs to build large language models and develop physical AI tools for enterprises. Additionally, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information will partner with NVIDIA to create a centre of excellence for quantum and scientific research.
Through combined efforts across industry, government, and academia, this initiative positions South Korea as a key global player in the AI era—driving innovation, research, and job creation across multiple sectors.
