Private 5G is slowly moving beyond trials and proof-of-concept projects. Many enterprises now want networks that are stable, secure and ready for real-world production.

In that direction, NTT DATA and Ericsson have entered a multi-year strategic partnership aimed at accelerating large-scale adoption of private 5G while enabling advanced edge AI and physical AI applications.

As part of the agreement, private 5G will be offered as a fully managed global service. The companies plan to maintain a common architecture, consistent operational standards and strong security practices across regions, making it easier for global organisations to deploy networks without fragmentation.

The collaboration brings together Ericsson’s Private 5G and Edge platforms with NTT DATA’s enterprise networking capabilities, wireless expertise, IT and OT security services, and managed services portfolio. The objective is clear: integrate intelligence directly into connectivity infrastructure so that decisions can be made closer to where data is generated.

NTT DATA will act as Ericsson’s global system integration and managed services partner. This structure is expected to ensure uniform deployment models and operational consistency across countries. Additionally, NTT DATA’s Edge AI agents will operate on Ericsson’s enterprise Edge platforms, allowing real-time, autonomous decision-making at the network edge.

The partnership focuses on four main priorities — scaling global private 5G managed services, embedding AI into enterprise connectivity, building industry-specific repeatable solutions, and aligning around a unified global go-to-market model.

Deployment efforts will span industries such as manufacturing, mining, ports, airports, energy, transportation and smart cities. The companies are targeting measurable business outcomes and faster implementation cycles.

Initial use cases will centre on automated quality inspection and predictive maintenance in manufacturing, autonomous routing and asset tracking in logistics, AI-powered remote monitoring in energy and mining operations, and intelligent traffic management along with enhanced public safety systems in smart cities.

As enterprise AI strategies mature, the partnership aims to deliver a reliable framework where connectivity, security and real-time intelligence operate together in full-scale production environments.
