Artificial intelligence tools sometimes generate incorrect or imaginary information, a problem commonly known as hallucination. However, NotebookLM, an AI research and learning tool developed by Google, has gained attention for offering a more reliable approach.

Unlike many AI assistants that pull information from broad internet sources, NotebookLM allows users to upload their own reference materials. Because the system works directly with selected documents, it helps reduce the chances of inaccurate responses. This approach has made the tool increasingly popular among students, researchers, and professionals who want to break down complex topics into simple explanations.

Recently, Google revealed a new update that expands the types of files users can upload to the platform. According to an announcement shared through NotebookLM’s official social media account, the tool now supports EPUB files as a source format.

EPUB, often written as ePub, is one of the most widely used formats for digital books. It is designed to adjust automatically to different screen sizes, which makes it ideal for reading on smartphones, tablets, and e-readers.

Compared with PDF files, EPUBs usually have smaller file sizes and can support interactive features. With this new capability, NotebookLM users can upload their EPUB books and quickly convert the content into different AI-generated outputs.

For example, the tool can turn a book into video summaries, audio overviews, slide presentations, or quick text summaries. This allows users to explore lengthy content in a much faster and more digestible format.

The feature could be especially useful for readers who want to review novels or educational material more efficiently. Since many books are already available in EPUB format, users can generate quick summaries, ask questions about specific passages, or even transform a book into a podcast-style discussion hosted by two AI-generated presenters. In some cases, users can also join the conversation and interact with the AI hosts.

Alongside the EPUB update, NotebookLM has also introduced a new infographic creation feature. The tool now allows users to generate custom infographics in ten different visual styles, including Sketch, Kawaii, Professional, Scientific, Anime, Clay, Editorial, Instructional, Bento Grid, and Bricks.

Users can further customise the layout by choosing between landscape, portrait, or square formats. They can also decide how much information should appear in the infographic by selecting Concise, Standard, or Detailed content levels.

Additionally, NotebookLM lets users guide the AI’s design choices. By describing their preferences for colour, style, or focus areas, they can shape how the final infographic looks.

With these new features, Google continues to expand NotebookLM as a tool designed to help users analyse, summarise, and visualise information more effectively.
