Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is trying out a different way to handle his workload—by building an AI assistant for himself.
The idea isn’t overly complicated. Instead of depending on layers of teams to gather updates or information, the system is meant to give him answers quickly, in one place, so decisions can be made faster.
The assistant is still being developed, but it’s designed to pull in the kind of information Zuckerberg would normally request internally. It’s less about replacing people and more about cutting down the time it takes to get clarity on things.
This experiment is part of a bigger shift inside Meta. The company has been pushing employees to use AI tools more actively and rethink how work flows across teams. There’s also a growing effort to simplify the organisation, and reports suggest that could include reducing the workforce by as much as 20% as more work gets automated.
Some of that change is already visible. Internal tools like “Second Brain” help employees quickly find documents and information, while “My Claw” makes it easier to work with files and conversations. These tools are slowly becoming part of everyday work inside the company.
At the same time, Meta is putting serious money behind its AI plans. It’s expected to spend between $115 billion and $135 billion in 2026, mostly on building data centres, improving computing power, and developing its own chips.
Those chips are part of its MTIA programme, which focuses on making AI systems faster and more efficient, especially for tasks like recommendations and chat.
Even with all this investment, competition is getting tougher. Meta is trying to keep pace with companies like OpenAI and Google. Recently, it also delayed the release of its next AI model, known internally as Avocado, after tests showed it still isn’t matching the performance of top systems like Google’s Gemini 3.0.
Overall, it feels like Meta is in the middle of a transition—trying to move quicker, rely more on AI, and reshape how work gets done, starting from the very top.
