Elon Musk’s xAI Adds Image-to-Video Feature to Grok AI
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has rolled out a major update to its Grok AI model, introducing new features — including a tool that can turn still images into short videos within seconds.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, November 9, Musk wrote, “Long press on any image to turn it into a video! Then customise the prompt to create whatever you can imagine.” Alongside his post, Musk uploaded an AI-generated clip he said was created from a photo of a girl, using the prompt: “She smiles and says, ‘I will always love you.’”
The resulting video shows a lifelike AI-generated woman standing on a rainy street, speaking those exact words in a computer-generated voice.

This new capability is said to be powered by Grok Imagine, a new photo and video generation tool developed by xAI. Grok’s chatbot is directly integrated into Musk’s social media platform X, allowing users to create and share AI-generated images and videos without leaving the app.
Shortly after Musk’s announcement, several users on X began testing the feature themselves, uploading clips created from still images using Grok Imagine’s new video generation function.
Musk also shared another example — an AI-generated video of actress Sydney Sweeney saying, “You are so cringe.” Similar tools have been introduced by other major tech companies, such as Adobe, whose Firefly AI can also transform still images and illustrations into dynamic video clips.
Recently, xAI announced that Grok 4 would now be available for free to users worldwide. However, free-tier users are limited to a set number of prompts and queries per day. Those subscribed to xAI’s Premium or Premium+ plans can enjoy faster responses, longer context windows, and an advanced “SuperGrok” mode with enhanced capabilities.
