Google is quietly working on a new AI feature for Google Photos that could turn your photo gallery into a smart digital wardrobe.

The idea is simple but powerful. Using AI, the app will scan your photos, pick out the clothes and accessories you’ve worn, and organise them into categories like tops, bottoms, and jewellery. In a way, it builds a virtual closet for you—automatically.

Once everything is sorted, you can start experimenting. The feature lets you mix and match different pieces to create new outfits, save your favourite looks, and even group them into mood boards for different occasions. You can also share these outfit ideas with others if you want a second opinion.

One of the more interesting additions is a virtual try-on tool. This allows you to get a rough idea of how certain outfit combinations might look on you, without actually wearing them. The concept feels similar to the digital wardrobe seen in the movie Clueless, where outfits were planned using a computer.

Google says the wardrobe will be created automatically from your existing photos, but the results will depend on the kind of images you have. Clear, well-lit, full-body photos are likely to give better results than blurry or cropped ones.

The feature isn’t available yet, but it’s expected to roll out on Android first later this summer, followed by iOS. When it arrives, users will likely find it inside the “Collections” section of the app.

With this move, Google is stepping into a space that’s already been explored by fashion and styling apps. But by building it directly into Google Photos, the company is trying to make outfit planning easier and more accessible—without needing any extra apps.
