Google is bringing more of its Gemini AI directly into the Chrome browser. The update, announced on January 28, is meant to help people get things done on the web without jumping between tabs or apps.

Gemini in Chrome is now based on Gemini 3 and is rolling out on Windows, macOS, and Chromebook Plus. A new side panel keeps Gemini available while users browse, so they can ask questions or request help without leaving the page they are on.

The side panel can summarise articles, compare information across tabs, and assist with basic tasks like planning or organising. Google says people testing the feature spent less time switching tabs and found it easier to handle multiple tasks at once.

Chrome is also getting simple image editing tools through Nano Banana. Users can change or redesign images by typing instructions into Gemini. Everything happens inside the browser, without downloading or uploading files.

Gemini can now work across other Google services as well. Through Connected Apps, it can access Gmail, Calendar, Maps, and Shopping to help draft emails, check schedules, or plan trips, as long as the user allows it.

Google plans to add a feature called Personal Intelligence later this year. If turned on, Gemini will remember context from earlier interactions to give more relevant responses. Google says users will be able to control or disable this at any time.

For paid AI subscribers in the U.S., Chrome will also include Auto Browse, which lets Gemini handle tasks that take several steps, such as researching options or filling out forms. Google says the tool will always ask before doing anything sensitive.

Google is also improving how Gemini understands images. A new feature called Agentic Vision allows the AI to study images step by step, helping reduce errors and improve accuracy.

With these updates, Google is turning Chrome into more than just a browser. The company is positioning it as a tool that actively helps users manage everyday tasks while staying in control.
