Google Expands AI Mode with New Agentic Features

Google revealed on Tuesday that it’s adding new agentic features to AI Mode — the Search tool that helps users ask complex questions and explore topics more deeply. With this update, AI Mode can now assist users in booking event tickets as well as beauty and wellness appointments directly within Search.

For example, you can say, “Find me two cheap tickets for the Shaboozey concert coming up. Prefer standing floor tickets.” AI Mode will then browse multiple ticket platforms to locate real-time options that match your criteria. It provides a curated list of ticket prices, and each result links directly to the site where you can complete your booking.

These upgraded features are currently available to users in the U.S. who are part of Search Labs, Google’s experimental testing platform. Users subscribed to Google AI Pro and Ultra tiers will also benefit from higher usage limits.

AI Mode’s Growing Capabilities and Global Reach

Google initially brought agentic functions to AI Mode in August, when it began allowing users to find restaurant reservations using natural language requests. You could, for instance, ask, “Find me a dinner reservation for three people this Friday after 6 p.m. around Logan Square. Craving ramen or bibimbap,” and AI Mode would search restaurant booking platforms to show available options that fit those details.

According to Google’s Search Labs page, the goal of AI Mode is to help people connect with reliable, high-quality information. The company notes that while the system uses Google’s core quality and safety checks, it remains an experimental tool that may occasionally make mistakes.

AI Mode was first introduced in March as part of Google’s broader effort to compete with AI-powered search tools like ChatGPT Search and Perplexity AI. Since then, it has expanded to over 180 countries, gaining features such as Canvas, which helps users organize study plans and manage information over multiple sessions, and Google Lens integration, allowing users to ask about items visible on their screen.
