Google has rolled out new updates to its Gemini AI features on Android, with the latest enhancements currently available in beta. The update allows users to ask Gemini to complete tasks like booking rides or placing food delivery orders, reducing the need to switch between multiple apps.
The concept is straightforward: instead of opening a rideshare or grocery app, entering details, and confirming an order manually, users can now let Gemini handle the process. The AI takes the necessary steps on behalf of the user, streamlining everyday tasks.
For now, the feature is limited to select apps in the food, grocery, and rideshare categories. It works through the Gemini app on specific devices, including the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S26 series. The initial rollout is focused on the United States and South Korea.
Built-in Safeguards
To prevent errors, Google has added several safety measures. Automations only start when the phone’s owner gives an explicit command. While a task is in progress, users can monitor it in real time and stop it if anything seems incorrect.
Additionally, all AI-driven actions run inside a secure virtual window on the device. Within this environment, Gemini can only access approved apps, ensuring the AI does not interact with other personal data on the phone.
Expanding AI Features
The update reflects a broader push to use AI for everyday digital tasks. Similar services, like ChatGPT, have already enabled users to schedule tasks or perform automated computer actions.
Alongside the automations, Google is expanding its Scam Detection feature for calls. It is now available on US versions of the Samsung Galaxy S26 series. Scam text detection, powered by Gemini’s on-device model, is also rolling out to more devices, including the Pixel 10 lineup.
Another upgrade improves the Circle to Search feature. Previously, users could identify a single object on screen. Now, Gemini can analyse multiple items at once. Users can circle or scribble over several objects in a photo — such as pieces of clothing — and receive results for each item.
Google has been steadily enhancing Gemini across Android through regular Pixel feature drops. This comes as competitors, including Apple, continue working on advanced AI updates, such as a more powerful version of Siri expected later this year.
