Gemini AI comes to Google Chrome:
Google has been gradually integrating its AI technology, Gemini, into various services like Android and Gmail, and now it’s making its way to Chrome. This new update is coming to both Mac and Windows desktop versions of the browser.
According to a recent blog post, Gemini in Chrome is designed to work at multiple levels to better predict user needs, simplify complex information, and boost productivity while browsing the web. Similar to its presence on Android, iOS, and the web, the AI chatbot in Chrome allows users to ask detailed questions, retrieve information from specific web pages, manage multiple tabs, and even schedule meetings or find YouTube videos.
One standout feature is the integration of Google Search’s AI Mode directly in the Chrome address bar. Users will also soon be able to change compromised passwords with just one click.
Looking ahead, Google plans to add even more functionality to Gemini in Chrome, including “agentic” features. These will let the AI take on tasks like booking a haircut, ordering groceries, or interacting with websites on your behalf—freeing up time for users to focus on other activities.
Another exciting capability is the AI’s ability to manage Chrome tabs. For example, users can ask it to compare prices across different tabs, summarize info, or consolidate travel details into a single itinerary. You can also ask Gemini to remember past websites, such as “what was the site with the walnut desk I saw last week?” or “which blog was I reading on back-to-school shopping?”
Right now, Gemini in Chrome is available for English-speaking users in the U.S., with plans to expand to other regions in the future.
