Figma has introduced a new AI-powered design agent that works directly inside its multiplayer canvas, aiming to help product teams create, edit, and improve designs in real time. The company said the feature is specifically built for product design workflows and will begin rolling out in beta to paid Figma Design users over the next few weeks. During the beta phase, the tool will not use AI credits, and interested users can join a waitlist for early access.

The AI agent operates within Figma’s collaborative design workspace, allowing teams to generate design layers, automate repetitive tasks, experiment with ideas, and gather feedback without leaving the canvas. According to the company, the system is designed to understand workflows, design systems, and team context, enabling designers, engineers, marketers, and product managers to collaborate through natural-language prompts.

Loredana Crisan, Chief Design Officer at Figma, said that as software development becomes easier with AI, the real challenge is deciding what to build, how it should function, and what kind of experience it should deliver.

The launch comes as more software teams adopt AI tools to accelerate product development. Figma described the new agent as a collaborative assistant rather than a traditional chatbot, working alongside users directly on the canvas.

The company said the tool understands product design principles, Figma-specific workflows, and team standards built over time. It also supports multiple AI agents running simultaneously in parallel threads, allowing teams to explore ideas without constantly switching between tools.

Crisan added that teams can use the agents together on the multiplayer canvas to test concepts, visualize edge cases, and refine designs while reducing time spent on repetitive work.

According to Figma, the agent can automate tasks such as component creation, layout adjustments, and bulk edits while remaining connected to existing design systems and ongoing canvas discussions. The company also said the feature makes design work more accessible to non-design teams through simple natural-language instructions.

The new launch expands Figma’s growing AI portfolio, which already includes its prompt-to-prototype tool, Figma Make, and the Figma Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that integrates with third-party coding agents.

Figma said weekly active users of its MCP server increased fivefold during the first quarter of 2026, highlighting rising demand for AI-assisted product development. The company added that teams can now move more smoothly between design and coding by using the agent for concept creation and Figma Make for turning ideas into functional applications.

Andy Madrick, a product designer at Notion who joined the early access program, said the new workflow allowed him to move from design to code much faster after connecting his design libraries.
