OpenAI has introduced a new ChatGPT feature that aims to make difficult maths and science concepts easier to grasp. Called dynamic visual explanations, the tool allows users to explore ideas through interactive diagrams rather than just reading text.

With this update, learners can adjust numbers and variables directly and watch how the results change on screen. The goal is to help people see how formulas and relationships behave, instead of simply memorising them.

For example, when learning about the Pythagorean theorem, a user can change the length of a triangle’s sides and instantly see how the hypotenuse changes. By moving values up or down, the relationship between the numbers becomes clearer.

Using the feature is simple. A user might ask ChatGPT a question like “What is the lens equation?” or “How do I calculate the area of a circle?” The response includes a short explanation along with a visual module that can be adjusted in real time.

At the moment, the system supports over 70 topics across maths and science. Some examples include binomial squares, Charles’ law, compound interest, Coulomb’s law, exponential decay, Hooke’s law, kinetic energy, linear equations and Ohm’s law.

OpenAI says it plans to add more topics as the feature develops. It is already available to anyone who logs into ChatGPT.

The update reflects a broader shift in how AI tools are being used in education. Instead of simply providing answers, ChatGPT is starting to focus more on helping users understand the ideas behind those answers.

At the same time, the rapid spread of AI learning tools has raised questions among educators about how much students should rely on them. OpenAI says more than 140 million people use ChatGPT each week to get help with subjects like maths and science.

Other companies are exploring similar approaches. Google’s Gemini platform, for example, introduced interactive diagrams and visual learning features last year.

The new visuals also join other study-related tools already available in ChatGPT, including Study Mode, which guides users through problems step by step, and QuizGPT, a feature that helps people create flashcards and test their knowledge before exams.
