OpenAI appears to be preparing several new features for the Android version of ChatGPT as the company continues to improve the mobile experience for users.
A recent report suggests that developers are testing an update that would allow the app to remember where users left off during a session. This feature is different from ChatGPT’s existing memory system, which stores user preferences and instructions to deliver more personalised responses. Instead, the upcoming functionality would let users switch to other apps, remove ChatGPT from their phone’s recent apps list, and still return to the same conversation or task later.
The report also mentions possible updates to the app’s image editing tools and sidebar interface. In addition, the profile section could soon include two new options called “Fun fact” and “Generate bio.” While the exact purpose of the “Fun fact” feature is not yet clear, the “Generate bio” option is expected to automatically create a short biography for the user with the help of AI. These additions, however, are not yet available to the public.
Another change being explored involves the sidebar design. At present, the sidebar slides out from the left side of the screen so users can continue viewing their conversation. In a future update, the sidebar may expand to a full-screen layout.
For now, these features are still under development, and it remains uncertain whether they will appear in the stable version of the app or when they might be officially released.
The development activity comes shortly after OpenAI introduced GPT-5.4, a new AI model designed with stronger reasoning and coding abilities and the capability to interact with computers and software more directly.
At the same time, ChatGPT has recently drawn significant public attention for several reasons. The company has faced criticism over concerns about AI safety and other controversies, even as it continues expanding the capabilities of its technology.
