Adobe is introducing a new round of AI-powered updates to its video editing software, alongside fresh funding aimed at supporting film and television professionals.

The company shared the details ahead of the Sundance Film Festival, where Adobe tools were used in a large share of the films screened. Adobe says its latest updates are focused on making everyday editing work less time-consuming, especially during post-production.

In Premiere Pro, editors will see improvements to object selection and masking. These features help users identify and track people or objects across shots more accurately, cutting down the need for manual frame-by-frame adjustments. Premiere is also being linked more closely with Firefly Boards, Adobe’s AI-based planning tool, allowing creative teams to move ideas into active projects more smoothly.

Adobe Brings AI Automation Deeper Into Video Editing Workflows

After Effects is receiving several updates aimed at motion designers. Adobe has added new typography options, expanded material libraries and improved 3D tools, making it easier to create complex animations without switching between multiple programs. The company says these changes are designed to give creators more flexibility while keeping workflows familiar.

Beyond software updates, Adobe confirmed it will invest another $10 million this year through its Film & TV Fund. The programme supports video professionals from underrepresented backgrounds by offering grants, training resources and opportunities to connect with industry partners. With the latest investment, Adobe’s total funding for the initiative now stands at $20 million.

Adobe is also extending its Firefly AI platform across video workflows. New integrations with Premiere strengthen Firefly’s video capabilities, while a browser-based Firefly video editor has entered public beta. The online tool allows creators to assemble generative clips, existing footage, graphics and audio without relying on high-end systems. Adobe has also partnered with Runway to introduce newer AI video models into its creative tools.

According to Adobe, recent updates in Premiere and After Effects are already helping editors complete tasks faster. New mask tools make it easier to blur faces, adjust lighting or isolate parts of a frame, while redesigned shape controls offer more precision. In After Effects, native 3D parametric meshes allow for more detailed visuals with realistic shadows. Access to over 1,300 free Substance 3D materials and new variable font animation options further expand creative possibilities.

Adobe says its approach to AI is focused on assisting professionals rather than replacing them. By reducing repetitive work, the company believes creators can spend more time refining their stories and less time managing technical details.
