Milla Jovovich has unveiled MemPalace, an AI-powered application aimed at modernising the ancient “memory palace” technique. The project is designed to make this method of improving memory more accessible by creating personalised virtual environments where users can store and retrieve information.
In an Instagram video, Jovovich said she spent months developing the tool while working on a separate gaming project. During that process, she ran into several challenges with how current AI systems handle memory and retrieval, which ultimately led her to build MemPalace.
She described the platform as an open-source system available on GitHub, offering a new approach to AI-based memory, storage, and recall. Jovovich developed the concept and architecture, while Ben Sigman led the technical development.
The idea is based on the method of loci, a technique used for more than 2,000 years. It involves associating information with familiar locations and mentally revisiting those spaces to recall it. Research from Stanford University has shown that this method can significantly enhance memory by using the brain’s spatial pathways.
MemPalace builds on this concept by adding an AI layer that generates tailored virtual spaces. Users can place information within these environments and later retrieve it through guided sessions.
While more details about its features are still expected, the main idea behind MemPalace is to bring a traditional memory technique into a modern AI-driven format.
