Meta is rolling out new AI-driven photo and video editing tools directly inside Instagram Stories. With this update, users can now type text prompts to add or remove objects in their photos and videos, or even transform them completely. This marks a major step in making advanced AI editing tools easily accessible to everyone using Instagram.
Previously, Instagram users could experiment with AI edits only through interactions with the Meta AI chatbot. Now, by integrating these features straight into Stories, Meta is simplifying the process, allowing users to make creative changes without leaving the app or opening a chat window.
The new tools appear under the “Restyle” option, found by tapping the paintbrush icon at the top of the Stories screen. Once there, users can select commands like “add,” “remove,” or “change” and describe what they want in the prompt box. For instance, you can request the AI to adjust your hair color, add accessories like a crown, or completely swap out your background for a sunset.

In addition to manual prompts, Meta offers preset effects that automatically enhance or restyle photos. These can alter clothing, accessories, or the overall image aesthetic. Examples include adding sunglasses or a biker jacket to a person, or transforming the visual style into something artistic like a watercolor painting.
The AI capabilities extend to videos as well. With just a prompt, users can create dynamic effects such as falling snow or flickering flames, giving Stories a cinematic touch. This expansion brings AI video editing to casual creators who may not have access to professional tools.

However, users should be aware that using Meta’s AI tools means agreeing to the company’s AI Terms of Service. These terms grant Meta permission to analyze uploaded content—including facial features—and use it to summarize, modify, or generate new media. Essentially, Meta’s systems learn from your images to improve their creative functions.
Meta’s broader strategy is to stay ahead in the competitive AI space by embedding artificial intelligence across its platforms. Recently, it has been testing a “Write with Meta AI” prompt to help users craft witty comments on Instagram posts, further blending creativity with automation.
The company has also been expanding AI features across its ecosystem. A recent addition is the “Vibes” video feed in the Meta AI app, showcasing AI-generated clips and contributing to a surge in engagement. According to Similarweb data, daily active users across iOS and Android jumped from roughly 775,000 to 2.7 million by mid-October. To address parental concerns, Meta has also introduced tools allowing parents to disable AI chats for teens and monitor the types of AI discussions happening within the app.
